NCTC–ATCC Equivalence Reference

Formal equivalence documentation for all 11 VerisQ reference strains — linking NCTC and NCPF strain designations to their ATCC counterparts for regulatory submissions and QA documentation.

Notice — ATCC Taxonomic Name Changes (USP–NF, 18 Dec 2025): The American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) has implemented taxonomic updates for certain reference strains cited in the USP–NF, reflecting advances in phylogenetic and genomic research. Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633) is now designated Bacillus spizizenii (formerly Bacillus subtilis); Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 9027) is now designated Pseudomonas paraeruginosa (formerly Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Strain names in this table reflect the updated nomenclature. Former names are shown for cross-reference. See the full USP–NF Notice of Intent to Revise.

Pharmacopoeial basis for equivalence: USP <1117>, EP 5.1.4 / 5.1.5 / 5.1.6, and JP General Information <G4> permit use of strains from alternative culture collections that can be demonstrated to be equivalent ("or equivalent strain" / "or strains shown to be equivalent"). NCTC and NCPF strains share the same original isolation source, phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, and WDCM registration number as their ATCC counterparts, and are internationally recognised as interchangeable reference strains.
